  Trouble animating isometric in AE 2.5D

  Hey guys,

  So I’m working on an isometric animation in After Effects, and I’m having trouble animating in 2.5D this isometric image. I made all my assets as 2D illustrator vectors, so true 3D animation isn’t really an option. My problem is that I want to rotate in 2.5D, but every time I do it gives me weird results. Any ideas?

  Also, I’ve tried rotating all 3 axes to achieve the effect, but that gives me weird rotations and unwanted movements.

  Any help or advice is appreciated.

  Is your Anchor Point located where you want the rotation to originate? If you are trying to “fold” the vertical layer down on top of the other layer, you will want to use the Pan Behind tool (Y) to move the anchor point to the bottom of the layer.

  Hi Ben,

  You’re really just simulating a 3D move in 2D, not even 2.5D, so this is how you’ll have to do it:

  

  You can skip animating the slant, but it will not look as good, as the plane will move linearly, not in a circular fashion.

  Or, you can make the “lid” asset a square and use corner pin and null objects to animate it.
