Activity Forums Adobe After Effects How to convert a 3d object into a motion path?

    A very nice effect indeed.

I don’t see a way around drawing the motion paths newly in AE or AI, as they would have to follow very specific routes. But having a 3D object as a reference should make this fairly straightforward.

Another option that comes to mind is animating textures along the surfaces of the sub-objects in 3D. But I seriously doubt that would make it any easier.

I’m not familiar with Rhino, but this is how I would do it in Blender. Convert the edges of the mesh to curves/splines, give them thickness, animate a colored texture along them, then render with a shadeless material. This probably isn’t the answer you were looking for but hopefully it sparks an idea for a solution.
