  Illustrator cs4 classroom in a book page 94

  I can’t get past step 3 on page 94 of Illustrator CS4 classroom in a book. I’m trying to connect two paths but the Connect Selected End Points button I’m being directed to use is grayed out. I’ve googled the problem (and apparently others have had this problem) but have not found a response that helps. Has anyone here worked through this?

  I don’t have that book, but chances are if that button is grayed out, then you have either
  – 2 points selected that are already joined
  – you have only 1 point selected
  – there’s a stray point right under another selected point, but you can’t see it, so you have 3 points actually selected

  Try
  1. deselect everything
  2. Go Select > Object > Stray Points
  3. Hit delete

  Now try again.
