  Youtube Upload jerky Using footage from After Effects 1080p

  Hi guys,

  I’ve uploaded a video I’ve created in After Effects onto YouTube.
  The settings are video

  HDTV 1080 29.97
  Square Pixels

  The footage is all vector .ai files, NO live footage.

  I rendered out the footage in media encoder as the recommended YouTube preset;

  YouTube 1080p HD H.264 16 Mbps

  I can’t post the video here at the moment as it’s not release yet but I’m getting a choppy output on YouTube. The video plays fine as a file on my computer and if you watch the video on my phone from YouTube again it’s fine but if you play it at any resolution on YouTube via computer it drops frames. I’m hoping this is only temporary while YouTube processes it. Does anyone know if this is the case or is there a problem with my settings?

  Sounds like a network or browser issue. If the file plays fine on your computer and streams fine on a smartphone, there is most likely nothing wrong with the video file, just the system you are playing it on. Have you tested it on a different computer?

  Yes, I’m coming to the same conclusion. I’ve tried it on a few systems with varied results. It doesn’t help there’s lots of scrolling on the video. Note to self: avoid scrolling in the future.

  Scrolling horizontally or vertically causes all kinds of issues. Judder being one of them. It’s rough! This document explores ways to avoid judder, but the simplest solution is to avoid horizontal movement 😉

  I’ve had issues like this before and determined that it was because hardware acceleration was turned off or not supported in the web browser. Chrome with hardware acceleration on gives smooth playback for me and might be worth a try.
