I am new to illustator and am confused. I created a new document thats 14×48 and that is my art board. I want to select the art board and fill with color to be the background of my document. I have tryed all the tools and keys but nothing works. I know it must be something simple. I bought taining videos and they get you to the art board and switch to imporing art work. I just don`t know where to go. I can use the marque and fill it, but then I have to center it over the art board and it keeps moving. Help

don’t think you can change artboard color (in cs3 anyway) so usually i create a separate layer, then create a rectangle that is the size/color of the colored background you want (14×48), position it with the artboard edges and then lock it in the layers panel so it doesn’t select everytime you touch it. build your other layers on top of that.
