Masking an object out but not making it seem like its ‘stuck on’
Hello,
I’ve taken a photo of a product and adding it too some packaging made in Illustrator.
I’m able to cut out the background from the photo, however, when I come to add this image to the packaging, it appears as though its obviously cut out and stuck on?
Apart from feathering the mask edges, is there a way I can make the photo appear to blend with the background? I’ve added a false reflection to the product, this is helping but I feel like more can be done?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, so the way the edges look cut-out is the problem?
What does the background look like? I assume it is not just a flat black like in the image you uploaded. Is it an illustration? A pattern? Text? Photo? Gradient? What colors? How does this photo relate to the background? How is it supposed to look? Is it supposed to look like it is part of the background, or like it is in front of the background?
Can you show the entire image INCLUDING the background it is supposed to integrated into, or at least the problem area?
I guess I would expect a metal object to reflect whatever is in the background, but it is impossible to say anything more based on not seeing the comp that you are having trouble with.

That is the image,
To me it appear as though the cut out image doesn’t have a smooth edge, is there a way to make it smoother?
The end result is meant to be packaging for this product.

Ok, I see. Yes, cutting out round shapes well is a skill in itself. If you ahve them masked out with a layer mask, you can use median to smooth those parts that look scissored out. A slight blur helps, but not much more than 1 pixel if your photo is in focus on the edges.
I would not make the edge reflections lighter, rather darker, to make it look like they are reflecting the black background.
