I’m a newbie to Photoshop, went through a few tutorials online, but still can’t get this one figured out. I have a lower third graphic targa file from a client, it loads into PS, but with a full black background. Clicking on the channels selector on the right side, “alpha” is unchecked. When i check it, the black goes away only to reveal a solid red background (not the checkerboard). Saving the file in either manner brings an opaque black BG with it. Any ideas on how to easily key out this background?

Saving it as a targa again (with or without the alpha channel checked) results in a cleanly keyed lower third in FCP. It just seems I should be able to save this as a PSD file…

    Thanks again!
