Something strange happens when I write text!
When I try to write normally using the text tool the whole image is masked in a translucent red/pink. I double click to see what I have written and the text is outlined in a ‘zebra’ highlight and disappears when I use another tool. Boo!
Is there any way I can reset the text tool? I may have reset something while trying to write ‘transparent’ text (where the layer below shows through the text and the rest is masked off, I never actually succeeded in doing this!)
Any help very much appreciated, thanks in advance!

It looks like you are trying to type with the type mask tool (see attached figure). What you need to select is the normal type tool.
