  Use of History Brush

  I’ve been using PS for a few years, read a few books, and have yet to fully understand the use of the History brush. What am I missing? Seems to me, you can achieve the same effect by creating a layer that is the ‘history’, do what ever effects you want, and then use that masks to expose/hide the new effects.

  I guess my approach uses another layer (thus increasing file size) and requires some pre-planning, but it offers the benefit (which I consider to be significant) of being non-destructive and I can adjust the masking later.
