  ok I’m learning. What is the burn tool in CS2/CS3…..what does it do for an image??

  It mimics a photographic technique of overexposing an area of a photo print, essentially darkening the selected area. Try it on photo images, as opposed to graphic images (that’s not to say you shouldn’t use it on graphic images).
  All sorts of touch-ups can be accomplished with Burning & Dodging. I think Ansel Adams evolved these techniques into a primary tool in his work.
