    i made a shape with the shape tool. it defaults to the foreground color. how do i change the color of the shape later down the line if i want to?

    Use the color selector located on the option bar just below the menu bar. This will only be active when you have the shape tool selected. You could rasterize it. But, you will loose your vector shape.

    or just double click the icon in the layers palette – viola!

    (and you can also add a color overlay layerstyle)
