Rendering 4k in Adobe After Effects
Hi,
I have this project I want to render out in 4k using a .mov file with a h264 compression but for some reason it crashed on me every time I try to render it out. Do I have to render with specific settings or is it something wrong with my actual laptop.

It does with the 5.1 and 5.2 levels https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC#Levels

Thanks for responding. What would you recommend me use to render out without losing a lot of quality?

This project is a visual effects pack I’ve made, like explosions and things. I want this to be the highest quality possible but not a .PNG sequence format. I have never actually rendered in 4k but I shoot things 4k with my GH4. Does this help?

Are the clips from the GH4 being re-compressed to a different codec?
I dont know what the GH4 spits out.
I do a ton of RED to 4K and yes even to h.264 (gulp).
But for YouTube 4K, I let them deal with it.

These explosions are rendered out from 3ds Max and not shot live. The GH4 comment was just describing my usual workflow. But with my GH4 I record to a 4k Ninja Blade monitor that records ProRes codec but this pack I want to render out needs to be in the best quality possible with the smallest file size since I am going to be selling this online. This is the first time I’m doing 3d work like this so I need a bit of help with the final render codec since I usually render out of After Effects with a .mov with a h.264 compression. What codec would I need to actually render out this project 4k?
