  Follow the Leader Y Position

  Hi,

  I’m using the expression from the MotionScripts page here – https://www.motionscript.com/mastering-expressions/follow-the-leader.html
  (found on an old CC post, thanks)

  The effect I’m trying to get is letters in a word moving up/down in sequence with the first letter in the word leading the movement and each after delayed by some amount of time.

  I’d like to use just the Y position of the leader layer, so that the letters don’t stack on top of each other. Is there a way to limit this expression to just Y? I’m new to working with expressions beyond simple wiggles, etc. ; I’ve been looking at various articles position arrays all morning but I don’t think I’m getting any closer to figuring this out. TIA

  delay = 5; //number of frames to delay

  d = delay*thisComp.frameDuration*(index - 1);
thisComp.layer(1).position.valueAtTime(time - d)

  Maybe like this:

  delay = 5; //number of frames to delay
  d = delay*thisComp.frameDuration*(index – 1);
  p = thisComp.layer(1).position.valueAtTime(time – d);
  [value[0],p[1]]

  Thanks! I tried it just now. The layer Y position shifts down and the X position stays where it should be but it doesn’t follow the movement of the lead layer.
