  return value of layer index

  I just want to create a variable which gives me the layer’s index number.
  This should be easy but I cant get it.

  For the layer with the expression:

  var idx = index;

  For a different layer

  var idx = thisComp.layer(“other layer”).index;

  As always you rock!
  I was over thinking it, I guess, by by writing:

  var idx = thisLayer(index);

  or perhaps I was invoking some other aspect of the expression that doesn’t return the value of the layer’s index

  This should work as well:

  var idx = thisLayer.index;
