• Adobe After Effects Expressions

  How to achieve this static trail effect?

  Ok, everyone…

  So I’m thinking about doing a video and wanted to achieve this effect of painting on the wall, taking a picture, erasing it with white paint and painting another frame (as done by BLU).

  I can’t explain it properly, so here are the references:

  Is there some expression or easy way to do so that my layer, while being animated, keeps replicating itself each frame and the replic being static? After that, I could add some colour effect to make it white.
  It’s like using the ECHO effect, but the trail has to be static.

  Any ideas?

  In case it isn’t obvious: This movie was done for real, with actual painting, not with software.

  Thanks for your answer, Todd.
  As you stated, it’s pretty obvious that the movie was done for real. I guessed that, being obvious as it is, it would be equally obvious that I’m trying to achieve a similar effect using a software.
  I suggested 2 videos as reference and if you watch the Vimeo one, you will see that it was probably not done for real, but using a software.

  The point is: the references being done for real or not, I need to achieve this effect using After Effects or some software. I thought about some expressions or using Echo effect as a basis…and I’m asking about some enlightenment on this matter.

  Still waiting for some cool ideas. Thanks!
