Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Expressions String and Ball

Dan Ebberts has a great expression for the physical simulation of a pendulum.

I want to use expressions to add real world dynamics to bend of the string based on physics. The string would bend back and forth as the pendulum swings.

I’d love to see these elements factored in:

    • weight of the ball or object
    • gravity

i think you are describing what’s in this tutorial:

This is good, but I’m looking for something a little more robust. I altered the mask so that it was simply a line and no ball, but the string looks like a series of swinging rectangles as expected. It would take a lot of rectangles or balls to create the illusion of a string which could get bogged down by all those repeated expressions.

Thanks for pointing this out though, I didn’t know it existed.

    hi andres,

[Andres Torres] “It would take a lot of rectangles or balls to create the illusion of a string”

yep, but it’s the only way to get ae to ‘bend’ a line in the realistic way that you are looking for… otherwise you’re trying to incorporate the use of an effect like cc bend it or cc bender or another distortion effect… possibly the puppet tool.
