  • Creating a puppet string effect

    Hi,

Im currently making a simple 2D animated marrionette type puppet and have been using the BEAM effect to make a nice strings that attaches to the arms, legs and head, this works well with the start point attaching to the moving limb and the end point staying at the top of the screen via a Dan Ebberts expression (cheers Dan).

Now I need to add some wobble to my currently straight string, i could use a distort effect on the string but would really like to use something neater like changing the shape of a stroked path to get a wobbled line, though i dont know how to attach the different ends of this to seperate moving points like the BEAM effect can.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Steve

There’s a couple of different ways you can accomplish this, i think.

Firstly, try out Wave Warp, which also produces a nice wiggle.

However, this option will end up with the string getting thicker and thinner in different places. Alternatively, you could set some extra, different keyframes of the path and then use Time Remapping to randomly jump between those keyframe. You can’t apply the Wiggler directly to the Mask keyframes, but you could use it to on the Time Remap keyframes to control their spacing.

    Hope that helps
