Popular AE Plugins
Hey guys,
Can anyone recommend some of the more popular plugins out there for Adobe After Effects.
One other thing… I currently use Magic Bullet to degrade the video to make it less “video” and more film like. But the thing is, for 30 seconds of uncompressed video it take an hour to render through AE. Can someone recommend an alternative to Magic Bullet, but with the same effects.

I would recommend using the search engine and try words like “recommend plug” and “popular plug” — this way you will get those who spell plug-ins as plugins or popular plug-in programs.
This question has been answered so many times that there are tons of replies if you use the search engine.
Sorry if this seems rude but I want to keep our leaders and others from screaming and bashing their heads against the wall.

I did as you suggested, but I have not found a posting that recommends any plugins…

Try some different versions of words in the advanced search engine — words like “plug-in”, “plugin”, “plugin packages” and “plug-in packages”. Search the search range for all active posts. There are tons of these kinds of threads in the database, trust me. ;o)

good point except that the list of “best” plug-ins is continually changing.
I’d also check Trish Meyer’s columns from DV Magazine, archived on that site, and the ae-list listserve, whose URL I can’t recall.

As far as film like look, you might wanna check out Digital Film Tools’ Filter Bundle. It comes with a crapload of 55mm filters, some of them pretty cool and from my experience they are not heavy on rendering time…Unless you are running on a slow machine…As far a popular plugins..I’d say Trapcode Shine is probably the best bang for your buck…If you have money to dishout than Cycore FX HD,Boris Effects,Tinderbox,GenArts release is a good bet…Personally I don’t like TinderBox because you can’t apply a mask to it, you have to precompose…If you are looking for a particle generator look no further than Trapcode Particular. Particle Illusion is a pretty powerfull standalone paricle generation.
For 3d stuff in AE Zawerks 3d Invigorator is a good bet…Even though you are probably better off spending extra 500 bucks and getting a full fledged 3d program…

Not as fast as you might think… One of my favorites is Composite Wizard. It’s been out there for years, under different names.
The biggest problem with these kinds of questions is that the original poster didn’t mention whether he was into motiongraphics, or specialFX and compositing.
For motiongraphics, most people wouldn’t use Composite Wizard. But for compositing I’d highly recommend it.

Agreed. I like it to clean up a matte before using Primatte.
