  • Fixing Motion blur after stabilizing footage.

I am working on a group of shots I got asked to stabilize for a feature film. They were shot handheld, following in front/behind two character walking down the street. There’s a lot of walking motion and random camera shake. I got a pretty nice stabilized image, BUT now it appears that there are random pumps of slight blur where the camera was moving before.. Because it’s night you can also see the street lights sort of distort into ovals from the movement. My goal is to stop the faces from blurring.

Has anyone found a way to fix this? Did I miss a previous post about this?

    Thanks!
    Tim

the only un-blur way I know of is reelsmart motion blur set at negative value -2. And its definitely far from perfect.

the shutter was set too low. it’s all about relative motion. if the camera was on a dolly or steadycam, if x is framerate, you could get away with 1/2x shutter speed. But since it was handheld, you need 1/3x or 1/4x shutter speed which computes out to around 1/100 – 1/120th dslr speed. there’s actual panning speed guide books too, no kidding.
