  Creating a custom fill

  Hello Cow Community,

  I am trying to create a text with a custom fill. I have a closeup jpeg of a yellow piece of carpet that I would like to use as the fill of my text without losing the stroke. I’ve tried using an Alpha track matte, but that of course causes the stroke to disappear along with the fill. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

  Here are a couple of ways.

  One way:
  Two copies of your text. One just rendering the stroke and one as the track matte for your carpet layer.

  Second way:
  Precomp text layer and carpet layer with text layer as the track matte. In your main comp, add Stylize>Vegas to the precomp and use the Alpha as the channel it’s generating on. Set the segments to 0 and make the mid and end opacity full to create your stroke.
