Slow RAM preview with Eizo monitor.
Hello,
Since I’m using an Eizo ColorEdge CG245W with my 2008 Mac Pro (8 core @ 3.0Ghz and 12GB RAM) RAM previews won’t play at the actual frame rate.
I used the monitor also on my laptop to test the setup. And I have the same problem here…
Is it maybe the lack of RAM? Should I get more, in order to get smoother RAM previews?

If you’re pushing a lot of pixels to an external monitor, the bottleneck can be the connection between the computer and the monitor. This is not a matter of RAM. How is your monitor connected? What are the pixel dimensions and frame rate of what you’re trying to preview?

I didn’t think of that…
The monitor is connect through mini display port. The comp is 1920×1080 pixels at 30fps.
Rendering a RAM preview at a lower quality, eg half or third, doesn’t seem to help much.
Also I’m using an ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card and AE CS6 (with latest updates).

That would have nothing to do with it if the problem is pushing pixels to the screen. Even if After Effects renders a much coarser image, a 1920×1080 frame still has the same number of pixels to be pushed to the monitor.

Do you know what the problem might be, by any chance? Updating drivers?

After I connected a different monitor to my Mac, the problem was gone… I reconnected the Eizo monitor using DVI instead of mini Displayport. The RAM previews are a lot better now. But still not at full frame rate…
