I’m looking for a way to automate making guides in After Effects.
Say you want to make a guide every 300 px in x & y; doing it by hand can be a bit tedious,
so I was hoping there is some script for this.
    But I can’t find anything…

I also looked into using a shape layer to make the grid and then change it into a guide layer.
Only to find that objects don’t snap to it the way they do with actual guides.

Anyone have a suggestion or something I overlooked?

Though I have written a few dozen scripts, I’m no expert on scripting. A quick search through the scripting guide shows no method of accessing guides.

However: you can set the grid up very quickly in Preferences then from the View menu enable Snap to Grid.

That should get you most of the way there. Won’t work for disproportional grid lines e.g. 300y 400x

Yes exactly what I thought, that there’s no way to script it.
Maybe in the future… In the mean time, thanks for the tip!
