Fractal Ocean
Posted by Scottt on October 1, 2005 at 7:14 amHi, I’m using AE 5.5, and I need to create an animated ocean surface. Does anyone know how to do this, perhaps using the Fractal effect?
Thanks,
Scott

October 1, 2005 at 2:34 pmIdeally you woud use the plug-in ‘psunami’ or create the surface in true 3D. But somewhere I saw a bump map plug-in for AE. It may be worth a shot. That way you could pipe in the fractal noise to the bump map effect and get somewhat of a look. But bump mapping won’t get you the swells (geometry is better for that) but for riples and other surface features, bump mapping is good.

play around with the evolution options of the fractal noise.http://www.VideoCopilot.net/ocean.aep

October 4, 2005 at 7:02 amThanks guys, I really appreciate it! I want to get Psumani, Knolls Light Factory and all the rest, unfortunately, budget restricts me. Even though I work in TV, motion graphics is primarily a hobby that -maybe- one day I’ll get to do professionally.
Thanks again,
Scott
