Problem lighting a vector layer that has a color change effect applied

Hello,

I’ve got a vector line imported from Illustrator which I put a color change effect on (it was black to begin with).

Now it won’t accept the lights I’ve put in the shot but stays at 100%, even though everything around it is dimly lit.

You must have switched on the AI layer’s Continuously Rasterize switch. 3D Layers with CR do not react to Lights and its effect – shadows etc. They also break 3D interactions, intersections and Light effects.

So, double check to ensure that you really need to CR the AE file. If you do, then precomp the AE file and CR and scale up in the precomp. In the ‘final comp’, DO NOT CR/CT this nested comp.

I’ve read the article you cited and still can’t seem to get what I need.

When I pre-comp the Illustrator layer with its layer style (color overlay) it’s either too blurry without the CR switch on, or if I turn the CR switch on it’s just like it was back in the main comp: sharp, but unaffected by the lights.

I’m simply trying to animate a black line into a pale yellow line while retaining the lighting environment. It doesn’t seem so audacious!

Layer Styles B-R-E-A-K 3D interactions in AE. Additionally, use the AI file directly in the ‘final comp’ – check the URL, again, I provided earlier.
