Currently I have a 1920×1080 Pro Res 422 master .mov @ 29.97 NTSC. I need to convert this to 720×486 NTSC 29.97 Quicktime.Mov. The compression it’s calling for is DV/DVCPro 25 Mbps. This is for a a stadium screen.

I went into After Effects, created a NTSC D1 comp which gave me the 720×486 dimensions, along with selecting a pixel ratio of D1/DV NTSC.91. I scaled my pro res footage to the 720×486 comp size, and added a black solid for black bars on the top and bottom. All seemed well until it came time for selecting the correct codec. I went into output module settings/ format options, and got stumped. I tried an export with the DV25 NTSC format which I thought would work, however it kept resizing my footage back to DV/DVCPro 720×480, not 720×486.

    Any advice?

    [Ryan Walker] “Any advice?”

The DV codec is specced to 720×480. You can’t change it.

You need to convert to a DV codec or any other codec in a .mov container?

I brought it into Compressor and switched up the geometry and it output 720×486. I was a little unsure on the pixel aspect so I went with the NTSC CCIR 601/DV.

I’m not doubting that the codec is specced to 720×480, however the stadium is calling for 720×486. Therfore I was worried the clip wouldn’t look right if I went with 720×480.
