Shooting in Europe at 24p, need to eliminate flicker
I am shooting in Spain at 24p with an HDX900. I need to eliminate the flicker from the lights.

Use 1/50 or 1/100 shutter speed.

or 172.8 degrees shutter, same exposure time just different value that you can see in vf

How do you set the shutter to 172.8 degrees on the HDX900.

Set to the half setting with the shutter switch on the front on the camera .At 24p this will give you 1/48 = 172.8.This is a great feature on the HDX900,you dont have to work it out in your head !
I dont think the HDX900 displays shutter as angles only fractions of seconds,anytime I,ve used it anyway but not 100% sure.?? even in film mode. -

So if shooting 23.98p in NTSC country 1/48th is correct for flicker?

No, not if you’re worried about 60Hz lighting flicker. If you’re shooting 23.98 in the US and want to elimitate 60Hz lighting flicker you shoudl use a 144 degree shutter. The math is easy 60 / 24 = 2.5 So 360 degrees with 2.5 = 144 degrees, the correct shutter angle to freeze lighting modulation.

144 deg shutter in 23.976p equals 1/60th second (AC power freq)
