  • Shoot 720p60 – Deliver PAL?

Posted by Joe Murray on August 9, 2007 at 8:38 am

Hello, we are about to shoot a 30 second ad. It is a mute, motion controlled model shoot. Deliverables will be mostly online and for exhibitions. There is a possibility that we may need to produce a PAL dvd.
We will edit in Final Cut Pro V6.01. The manual claims “720p50 editing is not supported ”
So can we shoot it all at 720p20 and do an easy conversion to deliver in PAL? Thanks in advance. JM

p.s We only have standard fire wire to capture over. I understand that FCP will only capture in 59.97fps.

Did you ever get a solution? I am trying to do the same thing but if I shoot 720p60, I have to cut in FCP at 59.94 (NTSC) and then get a tape house to cross convert to PAL which is very expensive. Any thoughts?

Still doing it. Might convert using Compressor, or its off to a conversion house. Good lucj

[foresthomefilms] “I am trying to do the same thing but if I shoot 720p60, I have to cut in FCP at 59.94 “

if you shoot at 720p25 and use those settings you can get the correct frame rates for PAL delivery. the camera needs to be set to capture at 60hrz and NOT 59.94.

FCP can and does handle the content correctly and it does not only work at 59.94.

the simplest way to do this is shoot at 23.98 and conform the final project in Cinema tools to 25p

A search of this forum offers 5 or six ways to do this.
