  Setting Advanced Pulldown in FCP for Varicam Footage

  Hey –

  I am Assisting on a show that is shot on Varicam and cut DVCPRO HD 720P 23.98 in Final Cut Pro. We are capturing from and outputting to the Panasonic AJ-1200HD deck.

  I have been told that the frame blending mode in Final Cut needs to be unchecked. (The default is checked.) Another default in the 720p easy setup is a 2:3:2:3 pulldown in the System settings.

  I will post this in the FCP forum if I need to, but I want to hear from a Panasonic expert if I should change that setting to Advanced Pulldown (2:3:3:2). I also hear the 1200 deck has some issues recording the flags for 23.98. Any other advice would be appreciated.

  The advanced cadence does not work in 720p, as that only correctly functions in interlaced modes.

  It is FCP that has issues “flagging” the content when laying back to tape at 720p24. Works fine over FW not over HDSDI (and it is an FCP issue not a board issue).
