Varicam-to-Film Seminar
I don’t know how many of you are in the Boston area. but there’s an interesting seminar taking place next Wednesday, May 18 in the late afternoon and evening. Here’s a description:
This coming Wednesday, Film North is presenting a screening of “Four Corners of Suburbia” on Wednesday, May 18, 7:30 at the Patriot Museum Place Cinema in Salem, MA.
If you check out the film website, http://www.4CornersofSuburbia.com, you’ll see that the film was produced in an innovative way: shot on HD using the Panasonic Varicam, edited as HD, and then output into a Quicktime file, sent to Poland, where it was color corrected and then output, frame by frame, to a 35mm film recorder. This cost-effective and bleeding-edge production process has resulted in a visually-stunning feature film, which was post-produced for a fraction of a conventional budget.
Because this innovative technical approach may interest filmmakers, we’ve arranged for a two-hour seminar on May 18 from 4-6 pm with Elizabeth Puccini, the Writer/Producer/Director and Loren Runnels, the Executive Producer. The seminar will be at Van Ness Creative, 60 River Street, Beverly, MA.
This seminar will allow us to find out more about the process of filming-out from HD, including exposing HD for the eventual film frame, editing protocols for HD-to-Film, and desktop color correction and transfer to film. The cost of the seminar is $25, and includes admission to the screening that evening in Salem.
There is very limited seating for this seminar (only 15-20 people can fit in the edit suite), so if you’re interested in attending, please reply to this email and let me know.
