  Insight about the Call the Midwife Intro

  Does anyone have any significant insight about precisely how the introduction to the PBS show “Call the Midwife” was created? Or how it could be reproduced in After Effects?

  Now, I am familiar with After Effects. I can obviously see there is a stroke on the letters at the beginning of the intro, and changes in opacity between the handwritten letter fades and the photographs. But, it seems there may be more to it than that. Any thoughts?

  Looks like there are two transitions at play –
  1) text into organic shape
  2) organic shape into photograph

  There is also some use of the Photoshop retouching to create a 3D look in After Effects trick. You cut out the main element – for example the kid in the carriage – then you retouch the cutout area “behind” the kid in Photoshop, filling that in with various cloning and brush techniques. You then take the layers into After Effects, shift them on the Z axis, so that the background is toward the back of the scene, and move the camera around subtly (making sure the layers have the 3D switch on).
