I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to export footage out of FCP in order to get the best quality from a DVX 100b in 24p footage. I have been using a panasonic consumer 3ccd camera (pvgs120) and a GL1 previous to the dvx and exporting the videos using quicktime conversion to high bandwidth quicktime files (in FCP Suite 2). When I do that to the dvx 100b with my 24p footage it looks horrible (worse than the other ones). I could really use some advice if anyone knows the best way to do this. A lot of the videos I see on the net (from dvx users) look amazing but the stuff I’ve been putting on looks like crap (the videos I’ve been doing for the company I am working for are being posted on the web in a flash format, and are also distributed on dvds). I have to admit that this isn’t my expertise and I’m probably doing this all wrong but any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any tips.

You would do an export to compressor from your FCP timeline. If you captured and editing with the right settings, the frame rates will be set automatically for you in Compressor, just pick the DVD preset that matches your total program length most closely. I go over this step by step on my DVD btw. 🙂 Preview here:

Thanks for the tip, I will have to invest in your DVD in the near future…In the meantime I tried to export my clip to compressor (this is where I got stopped last time I tried it) and it keeps saying my “source destination does not have read/write access”. My “source destination” is an external hard drive where all my videos and fcp projects are stored and I have checked to make sure it is read/write accessable, which it is. When I change the destination to the desktop, the message goes away, but the source is still denying access. Any suggestions?

    Thanks again.

That’s an OS issue- is this a drive from a PC or a USB drive? Sounds like you have a permissions problem. Run repair permissions on the drive from the Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
