June 5, 2007 at 2:44 pmWell, the reason you’re getting “lots of answers” is because there are lots of things to consider when choosing the appropriate format/setting. You haven’t given in your note any hints as to how you intend to use your finished product.
To be basic, if you’re using the DVX100, you can achieve a “film look” by using the 24p mode on the Scene File dial. That setting is F5.
When editing, you should be set up to edit standard definition video with a frame rate of 29.97. Even though your shooting in 24p on the DVX, your frame rate is still treated as a “traditional” video signal at 30 fps in your NLE.
So, the simple answer is “yes” you can achieve your desired look as described above. Unless you understand the need for 24pA, I would stay away from that.
Or so I think,
Good Luck,

June 6, 2007 at 8:23 pmI’m going to ask what may seem like a very simple question. Did you shoot the footage in 24pa? 24pa in FCP won’t do you any good if the footage was captured in 60i or 24p. I shot a feature film using the DVX100A in 24pa and edited with FCP. I had over 30 hrs of footage and had no problems capturing and outputing to progressive scan DVD. You must plan the workflow from beginning to end to eliminate problems.
Your idea won’t work like a plug-in to magically create a “film-look.”

Great answer.
His comment of “can someone please answer with a yes or no, cause everythime i ask this, i get alot of answers.” simply isn’t applicable. It’s like asking the brain surgeon if he can make the headache go away, and not really caring how he does it.
“plan your workflow”….Indeed, words to live by!

June 18, 2007 at 11:51 amHi There,
I believe I have made a serious mistake in my edit. I have edited a feature length film in a 29.97 1080i sequence. The footage, however, was shot 24pA 1080/60i on an HDX900. Due to pressure from the producer and lack of funds for a deck, I captured dailies in finalcut as entire tapes (which I then used as masters) using the camera and then subclipped and edited from the subclips.
My question: The pulldown never happened on capture for whatever reason. I was too unfamiliar with the process and messed up! So my clips still appear in final cut as 29.97. The timeline too is 29.97. I have rented a deck for the week to recapture material. What is the best route for me to go from here? Should I media manage and try to remove the pulldown frames? Can I media manage to make an offline sequence in 23.98 then recapture properly with the deck? PLEASE HELP as I am in desparate need for advice. Thanks for your time!
