Is the AG-DVX100B PAL or NTSC?
If a camera is able to shoot 30p AND 25p… does this mean it can shoot NTSC and PAL?
I know that NTSC is 30p (or 29.9) and PAL is 25p. So when I see a camera like the Panasonic AG-DVX100B, that it says it can shoot 25p and 30p… I would assume that this means it can shoot NTSC or PAL…
BUT, when I search in the net, I see that the Panasonic AG-DVX100B PAL and Panasonic AG-DVX100B NTSC are TWO SEPERATE cameras:
In the link above, the Shooting mode for the NTSC says:
60i (525i) interlaced fields Progressive mode (30P, 24P or 24P advance)and the PAL Shooting mode says:
50i (625i) interlaced fields Progressive mode (25P)So I don’t understand… Does this mean that the Panasonic AG-DVX100B has THREE different camera versions?? One that can shoot only PAL, one that can shoot only NTSC, and one that can shoot both?

There are 2 versions of the camera, one shoots NTSC and the other does PAL.

Further, the US version does 24P/30P/60i. The PAL version does 25P/50i. There is no one version of the camera that does both 25P and 30P.

Thank you for the relpy. I really fell in love with this camera and want to get it, but I need to make both PAL and NTSC videos, since I will have different projects that will need different formats.
Is it a big deal to get this camera and convert from PAL to NTSC or visa versa when needed, or do I have to give up this purchace and get a camera that can shoot both?

There’s only one camera on the market anywhere near this price range that can shoot both, the Sony Z1U. You can upgrade a couple of the Canons to shoot both. But PAL and NTSC in the same camera is an extremely rare thing.
If you want the filmlook, converting 24p to 25p (and vice versa) is a nearly trivial process. If you’re trying to do interlaced video (60i to 50i) that’s more complex and the results less satisfactory without using dedicated hardware, but to do simple 24p->25p or 25p->24p, that can be done fairly effortlessly.

So if I want to keep things simple and just shoot progressive, what should I get if about %50 of my projects need to be in NTSC and %50 need to be in PAL?

I would get the US/NTSC version. 24P is a nearly universal playback medium; if you’re distributing on DVD then a PAL DVD player can play 24P DVDs, but our US/NTSC players can’t play PAL DVDs.

Just wanted to ask first about 24… is this really progressive shooting? I read somewhere that 24 frames will always display as interlaced video because of the drop out frames. I also read a lot about that it isn’t true that 24f gives you a video look.
So is this really good quality as 25p or 30p? I didn’t see a whole lot of people that use digital to shoot 24p.
If it IS ok, are you suggesting that I always shoot in 24p when I need the final output to be played in a NTSC player?
