I’ve been shooting lots of live multicam performances recently, and several of us have noticed some strange behavior with the manual iris functionality. In a nutshell, the iris wheel is reacting inaccurately to the input of the user.

I have my iris wheel set to open the iris when scrolled up. But sometimes, the slightest touch to the wheel will stop down the lens to fully closed from even an f/4.8 or so. Other times, the wheel won’t react at all, or seem to go in the reverse direction as I’m asking it to before finally doing what it’s asked.

This would appear to be a software issue to me, especially as several of us have seen the problem.

Anyone else out there seen this? Have a solution? Being able to adjust the iris on the fly is obviously critical to live shooting!

Seen a few reports of this recently on another forum. The consensus seems to be that the camera must have a dirty potentiometer in there or something; I’d recommend a trip to a service facility to get it checked out.

    Chris

I am having the same problem with my DVX100A in the past month. My camera is a little over 1 yr old. Exactly the issue you noted…The iris wheel f-stop settings jumping all around when rolled even slightly, or the wheel will sometimes do nothing when rolled. I am getting frustrated. Please let me know how you make out.

    cheers,
    Al

I’m having the exact same problem with my DVX100a. Anxious to see what the problem is.
