  • DVX100A: mail-in rebate ending, and newbie questions

    Hello,

I bet this have been asked alot, but times are changing, and I have a question regarding the mail-in rebate and current/future pricing of DVX100A:

I’m strongly considering purchasing the DVX100A basically just for fun, and to have a challenge trying to figure out all the features on it.

Now, I understand the ongoing rebate campaign is part of a marketing thing to sell out DVX from Panasonic’s stock before the new one (HVX200) will kick off the sales.
Right now the price of a new 100A from an authorized dealer is about $3300-$500=$2800. What will happen with this price after 31.oct? Will there be a new rebate offer from Panasonic soon after, or will I have to pay $500 more if I’m not putting up the cash before the end of this month?

    — That was my main question, which I’m most interested in food for though on.

    But while I’m on it:
*What additional software must I have to get my video shots edited and published in web formats?
*Are there any freeware editing software solutions that works well enough to be used, or how much should I spend on this post-production part of it? Adobe Video Collection Pro is almost as expensive as the camera :/
*How much harddrive space is needed to successfully work with video? Does processing usually take days with a normal 2Ghz Centrino computer with 1GB RAM and Nvidia 6800Go?
*What additional equipment needed at the most basic level? Carry-bag, UV-lense, stabilizer/tripod, mounted mic?
*Is firewire cable included with the dvx100A? Or any other suitable cable to connect to PC?

As you all understand and hopefully only moderatly critisize, I’m a newbie at this, and any input it greatly appreciated,.

    Best regards,
    Johnathan

And by the way, what is the cheapest online authorized retailer?

We don’t know what will happen then. We do know that a new DVX100B is being prepared for release, and that it will carry the same retail price as the DVX100A. What hasn’t been announced is whether any of the same bundled items will be included, etc. So it is certainly possible that a DVX100A will be the less-expensive way to go, although that’s not guaranteed either; although it would seem unusual to introduce a new model with a rebate in place!
