  DVX-100 matter boxes and follow focus systems…

  OK, how many of us who don’t come from a film school background or from shooting film, are absolutely mesmerized by how cool all the new DV/HDV cameras look with the dam matte boxes and the follow focus systems?

  The problem is that I still can’t bring myself to purchasing these add ons, because 1) I don’t know how they work, 2) I don’t know why or how they improve upon the cameras performance to ultimately justify to the boss that they are worth purchasing.

  Can someone enlighten me one how these add ons are usefull to comercial/industrial video production and how they are used.
  I have a good notion of the uses of the matte boxes and filters but I have no idea on the follow focus system.

  Any input is greatly appreciated.
