  • Best way to clean DVX-100’s lens

    Hi all,

I have been curious about the best methods for cleaning the lens on the DVX-100. I of course use a UV filter (Hoya HMC Super), and it is great because it reduces the double images on bright subjects that you get with cheapo UV filters. But I’m in a constant battle to keep it clean, and am seeking advice about how to do this better..

So here is what I need to do:
    1) Do standard dust maintenance on the UV Filter
    2) Wipe any greasy residue off the UV Filter (like fingerprints or bubbles at a wedding – nasty!)
    3) Sometimes I see dust accumulate on the actual lens (I don’t know how, since I don’t take the UV Filter off), so cleaning that lens as well. It seems to smear a lot when I try to clean it.
    4) Can dust accumulate on the inner lens elements, and if so can that be cleaned as well?

Basically, I have found that using a Mikros (microfiber) towel sometimes just seems to smear the lens, and it can be hard to get the dust off.

What do people use to clean their lenses, and keep dust to a minimum? Are there things to avoid that could damage the lens? What about liquid lens cleaners? And what type of cloth is the best?

Also, is it even possible to eliminate all dust, or is this just something people put up with, and avoid having light flares hit the lens?

    Thanks,

    Lane Wyrick
