  • Can’t see live video in FCP from HVX200

Posted by Buddy Englett on May 9, 2011 at 4:21 pm

I’m trying to help a friend with an HVX200. I’ve never worked with one, so bear with me.

I have the camera connected via firewire and I’m able to see the live camera feed in the FCP capture window when the camera is in Tape mode. But in P2 mode FCP can’t see it. I have the format on the camera set to 720/30P and FCP set to DV NTSC Anamorphic. FCP is also set to Non-controllable Device.

We’re trying to capture/monitor live as we record to P2. Is there something else I’m missing?

No signals are output from the 1394 terminal
during recording or recording standby in the
    native mode.

It will also only output the same as the recording format.
    recording 720p
    outputting720p via FW

When using with the 720P/24PN and 720P/30PN settings, digital output in MCR mode only is performed. Digital input is not possible.

    Menu:
    Other Functions:
    1394 Control
Sets the control method for backup recording using a backup unit connected to the 1394 terminal.
    OFF:
The backup unit is not controlled.
    EXT:
The backup unit can be controlled by the START/STOP button. The images shot by the camera recorder are recorded by the backup unit. Note that the camera recorder does not record them.
    BOTH:
The images shot by the camera recorder are recorded by both the camera
    recorder and backup unit.
    CHAIN:
When the camera recorder’s media approaches its end during shooting, the backup unit in the recording stand-by mode automatically starts recording images.

Thanks, but I’m not trying to capture HD. I just want SD.

I’m not trying to capture in Native Mode. My setting is 720/30P, not PN.

The cam will not Down-convert out the FW port.

Oh, then I’m confused. I assumed that 720/30P was 720X480 SD video. How do I change it to SD?

    720P is HD
Go in to the menu and change the camera mode to 480i

Where do I do that? I don’t see the option to change it in the Recording Setup menu.

    Er Dave,

The HVX200 has component, svideo, composite, and firewire. There is no HDMI output.
