P-2 XML Files messed up
Posted by Kevin Christopher on April 27, 2010 at 4:48 pmFor some reason I have got some p-2 xml files that are corrupt. I have confirmed all of the MXF files are intact and in the right folders, but I can not get these files to come in to FCP

April 27, 2010 at 6:08 pmI only Get The last half of the file, or none of it at all. I have the Calibrated MXF Plugin, and can see all three part, but not as one file. The Producer messed up the xml files somehow qith his HDlogging software.

April 27, 2010 at 6:28 pmYeah, certain (older) versions of Imagine Products software completely overwrite the XML when editing it (instead of simply appending it), thus destroying spanned clip info.
I highly recommend P2 Flow for your metadata editing needs.

April 27, 2010 at 6:39 pmIf the File Structure is messed up at all, then FCP won’t work. I too like P2 Flow, but if your budget is smaller, Calibrated works fine. P2 Flow has far more options…but Calibrated will work.
(I like both, what can I say?)

April 27, 2010 at 6:41 pmI am talking P2 Flow, not MXF IMport. P2 Flow will edit the metadata, MXF Import will import the MXFs.
P2 Flow can edit the metadata without destroying the spanned clip info.

Jeremy just send me a note about this thread.
It’s true that using some versions of the Imagine products will destroy the spanned clip info – even without editing metadata – as they do a re-write of the metadata, instead of appending metadata.
So it’s not the fault of the producer.I’ve written a small ‘quick hack’ app for Jeremy which allows to re-construct the XML files which are ‘edited’ by the Imagine files.
We (means MXF4mac and Spherico) will post it soon as a free app on our websites. In the mean time you can contact me off list.Regards

I just put the ‘quick hack’ app on my web site. It’s NOT compatible with Snow Leopard.
You can load any amount of cards, the TC will be converted to frames. If any clip out frame matches the next clip in frame (+1) it will be regarded as as spanned clip.
This — even though that’s not good — will rewrite the P2 XML of your copied cards. It could merge merge clips, where you just pressed ‘Stop’, ‘Record’ within a fraction of a second. The link:
