Hi, I am trying to figure out the best hd work flow, i currently have a 15 inch macbook pro 2.8 intel core 2 duo with a 24 in apple LED display and i travel alot. My camera is a panasonic HVX-200 with 2-16 GB p2 cards.
I do independent projects, i have only produced SD quality. I need to step it up! I shoot almost everything in 720 24p for the most part so i can shoot slow motion. My questions are these. Should i get a new mac pro or can i get away with my macbook pro? I am Planing on getting a caldigit VR with 2 TBs and the Caldgit express card for raid 0 or 1 so i can use a eSATA conection. Can i use my LED with a MXO mini for color correction? Will that even hook up? I doubt it!
    Thanks In Advance!!!!

In the past we used a MXO with a LED screen for HD monitoring with a MBP 2.33. It worked fine.

MXO mini? No. Not to connect to a computer monitor. HDMI out to an HDTV, yes. If you want to hook up to an Apple display, you will have to use the MXO, and an adapter for the mini port to DVI. They make them.

    OK, I think i understand.
I want to two displays going at the same time.
    So i will get

    1. Matrox MXO
    2. Apple Mini Display Port to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
    3. Apple 23 inch cinema display to ad to Apple 24 inch LED display.
Apple does not make the 23 inch Cinema display anymore, I am looking for one. I think the 30 is to big for me and it won’t be balanced.
    4. a eSATA card to hook up to my Apple macbook pro
    5. Caldigit VR 2TB

    Does this sound solid?

    Thank you very much.

Need not get an APPLE monitor. A dell 2408 will do just fine. CHEAPER too.

[brad holmes] “2. Apple Mini Display Port to Dual-Link DVI Adapter” That is for the 30″ and is 3x the price and going to wrong way.

You need to get an adapter that mini display port cable to DVI if you are going from the 24″ to the MXO. And I don’t believe they are making that as of yet. So you will need to get a DVI monitor to connect to the MXO. A Dell 23″ will do.

The new 24″ look nice and bright but that is not what you want, it would be hard to judge color and saturation.

I already own a Apple 24 LED. I am trying to Still use it for the my left monitor and a dell 2408 on the right for color correction. Are you saying this is not possible with the MXO unless i get a 30″ Apple?

    Thanks

No, I’m saying that that adapter is to convert a 30″ monitor to the new mini display port on the new laptops (and graphic cards) it does not adapt the new 24″ monitor to DVI, so the Apple 24″ can only be hooked up to the mini display port, there is anything on the market (that I know of at this time) to convert the monitor to a DVI port.

So your original question of can you use the apple 24″ with a MXO is no, but you should be able to use the Dell.

You should be able to hook up the MXO to the mini display port with one of the DVI to mini display port adapters. But there is no way to have 2 external monitors hooked up to any MBP.
