I’m trying to hook up my HVX200 directly to my powerbook G4 1.67 gig running FCP 6.0.5 using the firewire connection to record directly to my powerbook’s hard drive.
I can see the image from the camera in the log and capture window. I can see time code (time of day) in the log and capture window if I set the camera to free run. I can hit capture now and it will record but only about 36 frames and then it tells me that it reached the end of the tape.
I’m not using tape, why does it give me this error? What setting am I missing?
Capture settings are set to 720p60 and DVCPRO HD
I am outputting from the “over 60 mode”.
It looks like I have everything ready to go except I only get one second of recording.

You are going to need Adobe On Location (CS4) to record in HD via firewire.

You can only record DV25 via firewire in FCP.

If you want to record HD directly to hard drive in FCP, you will need the AJA IO HD (Pro Res) or Matrox MXO2.

Not necessaily, you can do this with FCP via firewire in DVCPro HD, but you will lose all timecode. You need to set FCP to ‘non-controllable device’ to get it to work.

720p60 and 1080i60 captures on my FCP system using non-controllable device.

    Thanks guys,
that worked and you don’t even have to press record on the camera.
It’s true that there is no timecode pass through, but that may not be important in all situations. Would be nice if it did record the timecode though.
