  • Quicktime conversion issue– export stills

Hello. I’m trying to export some stills from footage I shot on an HVX200A. The footage plays fine in FCP6, but in quicktime it has several large black bars over it. These same black bars appear when I try to export a still through Quicktime Conversion, and show up in the still as well.

I’m pretty sure this is related to a quicktime codec for Leopard that I installed a few days ago:
    https://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/calibratedqdvcprohddecode.html

I installed this BEFORE installing FCP on this computer, because I just wanted to be able to see my quicktime movie files in Finder. Before installing they weren’t recognized at all; after installing they appeared with the black bars.

I installed FCP a few days ago, figuring its codec would overwrite the other. Today, after the still export issue, I erased the Calibrated codec, trashed all FCP and quicktime preferences, but the issue remains. I have Quicktime 7.5.5, FCP 6.0 and OSX 10.5.4. Any thoughts would be appreciated- thanks!

    Hi,

Did you delete the “CalibratedDVHDCodec.component” from the ‘/Library/QuickTime’ directory and the Calibrated directory from the /’Application’ folder?

    Cheers,
    Greg

Thanks, Greg! Deleting “CalibratedDVHDCodec.component” from the ‘/Library/QuickTime’ directory did the trick. I had already deleted the Calibrated directory from the Applications, but when I went looking in the Library for Quicktime I went only to the library of my user, forgetting there’s another in the Macintosh HD section. Thanks again!
