Greetings. The Calibrated MXF Import v1.0 for OSX is pretty new, anyone had a chance to work with it on a mission-critical level? I tried the demo, seems to work fine. As advertised, the P2 MXF files imported with sync sound, no Quicktime file! Using it would allow me to scratch one hard drive from our purchase list (no-budget film), but I don’t want to be the guinea pig….

    Appreciate any feedback.

    Best,

    Michael Colin

Careful, while it would be great to by pass the transfer process I would highly recommend having the footage backed up to a 2nd HD, which the log and transfer, kind of forces you to do. Trying to save a few bucks here can really come back to bit you.

Yes, I’ve used it. the only problem (and the developer is working on it) is that it won’t transfer User Clip Name metadata into FCP. Although if you open the clips in Quicktime, you will see the User Clip Name. You can also use this to open clips in other FCS apps with no transferring.

    >>EDIT Concerning addition and removal of pulldown: The original MXF File on disk isn’t modified at all – pulldown insert/removal just how the QuickTime video tracks for the MXF file are built in memory – the MXF files on disc are not written to.

Also, pulldown removal/insertation can be turned off/on for select frame rates via the Calibrated MXF Preferences Panel

It is very very handy for checking clips on set without have to log and transfer first.

The FCP P2 workflow is getting there. It’s so close to allowing native MXF editing.
