What to use when transfer P2 footage to Mac?
Hi all!
We’re about to buy a HPX500.
We have tried it out on our mac, and it worked just fine. Using 576i with DVCPro50.
In the test I used the Finder to copy the P2 content to a Firewire harddisk. P2 driver downloaded from the Pana web and installed.
But reading on the net (and I think I saw a thread on this here) shows that using just the Finder could cause problem with the file transfer?
What should I use?
Also, I have seen info about a util where you can name the P2 cards, making it simpler to keep track on which card has been copied. The name of the card remains until you format it using the camera(?).

Use P2CMS for transfer. Yes, there’s a separate utility for card naming, but as it’s PC-only, I don’t bother with it. Search on my name & P2CMS, and you’ll find a long thread describing my workflow.

ChronoSync- a data management tool that allows you to efficiently synchronize files and folders from one disk location to another with full verification and resume capabilities. In other words, it’s perfect for copying footage from your P2 card onto your hard drive.
About the only real drawback with ChronoSync is that it doesnt generate a checksum for the files. So verifying can be a a bit slow.
Also HD Log and P2 Log from Imagine handle the transferring much more robustly than the finder alone:
