  • HVX200A Video Noise Test?

    Hello,

I’ve been running some tests with my hvx, trying to find a way to decrease the video noise…
I’m kind of disappointed in the way this camera picks up so much noise especially in the darker areas of the image and in low light situations.

But, I heard they fixed this up a bit in the new hvx200A, swapping the ccd chips to bigger ones– supposedly lowering the amount of video noise, and increasing the light sensitivity half a stop.

Has anyone compared the HVX to the HVXa?
Did the chip swap make that much of a difference?

    thanks

I have read many posts that suggest you use an old technique to lower noise in the image.. When shooting with the HVX, don’t try to shoot zero black.. Keep your black levels up a little towards grey and then in post drop them down to black…

I haven’t had the opportunity to try this method with the HVX. I have used it with my Betacam tho…

Haven’t seen first hand but from my understanding noise has been taken care of considerably in low light situations. That said, nothing beats bringing lighting into your cinematography whenever possible.

The camera requires a minimum lux of 100. At ISO 320, f/1.4 is video black (IRE 7.5).

Are they using bigger CCD’s in the HVX-200a??? I watched a small video from NAB and thought I remember Jan saying something about a prism that aided low light but I didn’t hear her say it had larger CCD’s to solve this problem.

I was wondering this as of two days ago and ended up running across this…

it actually shows quite a large difference between the hvx200 and hvx200a. It is what made my mind up that the hvx200a was definitely worth the money. If the video doesn’t work for you, just follow the link in the first post to download the codecs.
