I just want to wrap my head around the aspect ratio and pixel size. I need to output an SD mov and my footages are SD and HD. If i want to retain the proper proportion of my HD footage, i must choose the NTSC DV vs NTSC DV widescreen, right ??? I assume this is because NTSC DV pixel aspect is .91 (which is closer to HD pixel aspect of 1.0) vs 1.21 for widescreen…correct ??? Thx

This depends on whether you’re converting the HD footage to SD widescreen or 4:3 SD letterboxed. Pick whichever comp preset is accurate for the delivery (widescreen if delivering for widescreen).

since HD is 16:9 i assume NTSC Widescreen is the correct setting, but with this setting the footage looked stretched vertically. When i changed the comp to NTSC DV, i have the proper letter box image of my HD.

So my question is, when i change the HD to SD widescreen, why does it look stretched ?? Aren’t both 16:9 proportion ?? Does this have anything to do with pixel aspect .09 vs 1.21 ???

Change your comp to the DV Widescreen preset(Cntl+K), then under the comp window you will see two arrows pointing left/right, Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction(PAR), press that and your footage should look correct.
