I am transitioning from a Panasonic DVX-100B to a Panasonic HVX-100 and am having some trouble with the P2 cards.

    – When I connect the camcorder to the external hard drive (160 GB g-drive mini) via firewire, I am unable to format the HDD or Copy to HDD. On the camera menu those options are grayed out. The only viable option is to verify.
-When I connect the camcorder to my computer (Macbook OSX 10.4.10, 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo Processor, 2 GB Memory) via firewire, I am not able to import the P2 media through final cut (6.1).
-I have been able to import on a different mac (Powerbook G4, 1.5 GHz, 1 GB memory) running fcp 5.1. In that case I found that when I go to file, import, there is an option for Panasonic P2. My macbook does not have that option.

I would appreciate any insight into solving these issues. Thanks.

    1) the HVX can’t power an external drive, so you have to make sure that the drive has adequate power.

    2) in FCP6 it’s called “log & transfer”, in earlier versions it was “file->import->Panasonic P2”. Go to “log & transfer” and it should work.
