  • problems with archived 16 gig p2 cards….

    Hi Everybody,

I’m having problems accessing certain clips on my archived 16 gig p2 card(s)…I’ve been creating .dmg files to archive my p2 cards (trying to back them up in fat 32).. When I just tried to access certain clips from a certain p2 card, fcp was unable to read all of them in the p2 import window….It shows the list from clip 1 – clip 4, then skips 5 and 6, and jumps right to clip #7…When I look in the finder at the contents of the no name directory, all the mxf files, etc. seem to be in the right place…I can’t for the life of me get clips 5 and 6 to work….any help would be greatly appreciated…..I’ve checked all over and am trying to figure out if there’s a manual way to import individual mxf files for unwrapping in fcp…? I’m trying to avoid spending another $200 for P2 LOG PRO…

Any luck on this one yet?
Be sure you’re using the latest drivers, of course.

    Thanks Jan,

Good look on the driver update….I will attempt to try it out as soon as its installed…However, during the filming, I remember my AC adapter unplugging twice. Would the unplugging of my power during recording corrupt my media files? I also just noticed that the aforementioned clips are very small in size compared to the other clips.. I’m thinking it may have to do with my camera’s power being zapped during recording…

Has anyone ever had an experience like this?

If the power goes off while recording, you may have to execute the “repair clip” function in camera, but you won’t lose any footage (well, you may clip off the last second or two, but two seconds is the maximum that you’d lose due to a power-off condition).

what if i’ve left the p2 card world and am in the .dmg world? Do I have to format a p2 card, copy all of the mounted .dmg file contents (no name) back onto the newly formatted p2 card, then fix clip?

Maybe, I don’t know — that’s more of a Mac question. Maybe you could do it through P2CMS directly? If P2CMS doesn’t offer a “repair clip” function, then yes I’d recommend copying the DMG back to the card and repairing the clip in-camera.

Thank you for this post. I had the same problem with accidentally unplugging during a shoot, and didn’t know how to fix the files. So easy!
