Upgraded to FCP 6/Studio 2 and now want to start on a HD P2 project. I was wondering what sequence setting to use in FCP. Client says he is going to shoot in 24Pnative mode, in HD, but also shoot some things in 60P, and some variable frame rate stuff. We want to edit in HD, but final step will be to spit it out in SD. Have been told to use a 720p24 sequence preset, but ingest/import P2 clips at 720p60. then go thru one clip at a time and run the frame rate converter tool. Can this be right?
    thanks for any suggestions. ef

This can get messy really fast. Why are these choices being made. If most of the footage is going to be shoot 24pN it will be 720P, but the only reason to shot it this way to to use a 720P @24P timeline (23.98) The variable rate will also translate cleanly into this 23.98 timeline. (if the HVX is set correctly). Then the last question would be why the 60P footage and then how much.

great question. i think the majority will be 720p24N, but he wants to play around with variable frame rates and in-camera slo-mo. so i think an easy setup of 720p24 DVCProHD would be fine, but i’m wondering why a trusted FCP friend would tell me to ingest everything at 60p?

My advice, have lots of friends but NEVER trust them. 🙂
