Strange audio problem
I’m using an external mic (a 416) and recording onto a firestore. When I play the original Quicktime file, I hear the external mic audio (inputs 1 & 2), but once I import the clip into Final Cut Pro from my firestore, Final Cut only plays the internal mic audio (inputs 3 & 4, which I know are always recording, but I don’t want that audio). I don’t understand why Final Cut isn’t playing my external mic audio. How can I make that happen? I really appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks.

What channels are you set to ingest in the log and transfer window(assuming FCP 6).

I have Final Cut 4.5–I don’t know what my settings are; I don’t see something called “log and transfer”–I’m just going to the “File” menu, then “Import” and then “files…” and then I import the clips from my firestore and it plays the internal mic audio.

FCP 4.5? What are you importing? FCP 4.5 doesn’t work with P2 footage…FCP 5.0.4 was the first version to give P2 support. Even QT files that were imported with other versions will have issues.
How are you able to import ANYTHING that FCP even recognizes with that version?
Sorry man, you need to upgrade to FCP 6 to work with P2 footage.

He’s probably capturing the playback from the FireStore. FCP 4.5 supports firewire capture of DVCPRO-HD.
